Summary: |
This selection of powerful personal stories of the Holocaust in various literary and artistic forms gives testimony of the extraordinary bravery of ordinary people. A map of concentration camps, a bibliography, and brief introductory notes for each excerpt are included. |
Teaching Ideas: |
Because the book attempts to deal with the unspeakable horrors of the Holocaust, students may want to read on their own before choosing what to discuss. General response strategies such as journal entries and Bleich's Heuristic would work well. The book complements other recommended tradebooks on the Holocaust. Local libraries may have supplementary materials and original complete works, i.e., videos of Shoah. "Booklinks," a publication also available at the library, has an article by Hochman in the January 1998 issue on Holocaust teaching suggestions.
