Teaching Ideas:
Students could start by brainstorming what they knew about the familiar song, Auld Lang Syne, then add to or change this list as they move through the story. Since the illustrations in this story are rich in detail, students could preview the text and do a picture walk telling, perhaps writing, what the pictures suggest for story content. Students could also research other poems by Burns.
