Summary:
An amazing and complex immigration story told in a wordless format. Once you start "reading", it's hard to stop - each picture draws you to the next.

Teaching Ideas:
The visual students may have a field day with this book and may notice many connections that the wordsmiths in the class could miss. Teachers who are insecure about teaching the graphic novel format should relax and know that their students may be ready to teach them. Students may want to compare narrative techniques---how the story is told--between traditional storytelling and graphic novel story telling. This book could be used to encourage ESOL students to talk and write about their own experiences coming to the United States.
