Students could document their reading with a matrix chart of the personalities and exploits of the navigators--who, when, where, who sent, what was discovered, etc. The book highlights the role of mapmakers which could lead to an interesting discussion. Because the book does not contain a glossary, students might want to construct one. Some readers thought that illustrations were occasionally childish.
