Teaching Ideas:
The role of competition and 'claiming' a land might be an interesting topic for discussion or writing. Perhaps learners would want to compare these journeys with others--early exploreres to North America or even current attempts to explore the universe using a matrix. Most expository text strategies will work well with this book. Students can create timelines of the events documented in the book.
