Teaching Ideas: |
The text and illustrations are reminiscent of My Season with Penguins which would make a good pairing. Many topics lend themselves to further research, e.g. the earth's axis and the solar system. Since information on global warming and its effects on glaciers is readily available online, students could extend the section on glacier "calving." Perhaps the recent penguin movies are available in public libraries to use to study penguin life cycles. Keep a nature journal for a week or more, writing entries and letters and making sketches in a nearby park or in your own backyard. |
