Summary: |
Bateman, a famous nature artist, creates a pictorial safari of African wildlife. The text offers detailed, interesting lore and the information boxes contain facts about habitat, height, weight, food, and range. The photograph-like paintings engage the reader. |
Teaching Ideas: |
The format of the book lends itself to creating a matrix to compare and contrast the many animals included and to include mapwork about where the animals can be found. Bateman emphasis was of the need to live in harmony with nature the way Africans have done for thousands of years in order to keep the animals from extinction, a good discussion or writing topic. The book could be used in a text set with Patent's books about species preservation. |
