Teaching Ideas:

The book raises many issues for discussion and writing activities. What role did illiteracy play in Joan's life and death? What can one person do to implement change? How did the traditional role of women affect Joan? Students could also do a "then" and "now" comparison of the 100 Year's War and a current conflict like the civil wars in the former Yugoslavia.
