Summary:
This easy-to-read and stunningly illustrated book shows what animals do at night in the North Country during the winter.

Teaching Ideas:
Students might want to learn more about the animals described, perhaps by reading other books or by visiting a zoo, nature center, or museum. Using this book with beginning readers and Nearer Nature with more advanced readers would allow the entire group to create a matrix about animals-- prey, predator, tracks, habitat, etc. Students could also use the text along with Backyard Birds in Winter to keep a list of animal and bird sightings in the winter. Pairing this book with Simon's Winter Across America would allow comparisons with other parts of the country. www.nationalgeographic.com/rwa; http://library.thinkquest.org/11922; www.animalweb.com
