Teaching Ideas:
Teachers will want to read stories before using them or recommending that students read them. Some deal with controversial issues. Instructional opportunities with the stories abound: "Old Mary"-- DR-TA or Agree/Disagree and Why?; "I Never Even SeenÂ…"-- personal response; "English Lesson"-- Think-Pair-Share; "Perfect Little Flower Girl"-- response activities; "Robbery"-- Discussion Web. The characters are complex and the settings are real in this fascinating set of stories. Sometimes the plots are realistically unresolved. Teachers and students will find much to discuss and write about here.
