The author, a mushroom lover, has compiled lots of mushroom facts and fiction. Style is a mix of narration and description. |
Teaching Ideas: |
All Reading Group members agreed that this book contains lots of interesting information, but one was concerned by the occasional childish voice. Another said, "You'd really have to be a fan of mushrooms to read this whole book." Culminating cooking activities are possible. Students might also bring mushrooms to class to identify them using the book and perhaps to make spore prints (procedures described in the book). In family literacy programs, parents could talk about how to teach their children about mushrooms. Learners may also want to make books about their own hobbies.
