Summary: |
This book is a tribute to Jerusalem in honor of its 3000th year. Each poem is accompanied by a wonderful illustration and a paragraph of information about the history or traditions of Jerusalem. |
Teaching Ideas: |
Teachers may want students to first look at the illustrations, then begin again to read the poems, then begin again and read each of the descriptions. Since three points of view are depicted, teachers may want to compare Jewish, Christian, and Islam religions. Some teachers may want to use the book with newspaper articles on bombings or failing peace accords to explore the history of the city as it relates to the three religions. Some classes may want to invite a Christian, Muslim, and Jewish traveler (who has visited Jerusalem) to speak in class.
