Summary:
An expanded version of the words to the song "Home on the Range" and watercolor illustrations portray the geography, petroglyphs, plants, and endangered wild animals of the American Southwest.

Teaching Ideas:
The glossary and map provide direction for the study of environmental issues, especially endangered species. The petroglyphs scattered throughout the book introduce the subject of pictographic writing which could be used with some of the material from Samoyault's Give Me A Sign. A class might want to try their ability in creating new lyrics for other folksongs. The dedication, "Dedicated to the land and to a time when the buffalo did roam, when there were no boundaries, and when life was lived without reservations," introduces several discussion topics. Endangered Species: www.geocities.com/RainForest/Vines/1460/index.html & www.james6.tripod.com
