Summary:
An Italian immigrant grandfather uses objects he's preserved in matchboxes to tell his granddaughter the story of his life. He created this unique diary because he could not read or write.

Teaching Ideas:
This is perfect for readers theater because no rewriting is necessary. The idea of writing or creating an unorthodox memoir using boxes or other items can be incorporated in writing a personal memoir. Students can interview an older family member about his/her life. Students could talk about, then write about, objects that represent important events or people in their lives.
