Summary: |
This biography of John Kennedy follows his life from his childhood to his White House years. The book is laced with many eloquent quotations from Kennedy and those close to him to craft a lyrical portrait of JFK. Vivid artwork. |
Teaching Ideas: |
The quotes can be used as writing prompts.
Select another historical figure and select a series of your favorite quotations that he or she made famous. Author's note mentions that this was the first national election she had voted in. Using this text as a model, students use quotes from the president of their first election and build a story around it. Students can also take the quotes and paraphrase what JFK is saying.
Although somewhat lengthy, text will make a powerful readers' theater incorporated into the teaching of social studies/history.
