Summary: |
The author imagines the meeting of two brave activists for the freeing of slaves --Sojourner Truth and Harriet Tubman when they were in Boston in 1864. The story is told with the aid of very powerful artwork. |
Teaching Ideas: |
One obvious strategy is to compare the two leaders of the fight against slavery - both similarities and differences - using a Venn diagram. The other is to discuss or write about what they might have said to each other. This book is a fine core selection for a Civil War study or for Women's History
Month. Would make a fine readers' theater text with two readers speaking in the first person along with a couple of narrators.
