Summary:
Using vibrant colors, typeface, and onomatopoetic words, the author and illustrator introduce readers to types of jazz musicians. Back pages provide biographical information on jazz greats.

Teaching Ideas:
This book joins a select and fabulous text set on jazz music that attempts to duplicate the music described through typeface and language: Jamie Adoff's Song Shoots Out of My Mouth, Wynton Marsalis' Jazz ABZ, and Toyomi Igus' I See the Rhythm. Students may enjoy discussing how the illustrations and text work together. They could each choose a different instrument and attempt to create its sounds in words. Read this book aloud more than once. It is reminiscent of the folk song "Knick, Knack, Paddywack, give the dog a bone."
