Summary:
A mother and daughter create a narrative in stitchery and text of the mother's life in Poland during the Nazi occupation.This collection of memories of the holocaust provides a first hand account of danger, despair and hope. The detailed tapestries provide a new way to look at a familiar event in history.

Teaching Ideas:
This book makes an interesting addition to a text set on the Holocaust. The author's introduction suggests discussion and writing about the why and how of telling personal stories of the Holocaust--and any devastating community trauma or disaster--is important for the teller and the listeners. The book can be used to collect students' stories and illustrations based on a historical incident in their lives (i.e. 9/11, Katrina) Use for further reading about the holocaust.
