Summary:
Ethan, a printer's errand boy, is carrying a message from business to business in Boston It is to gather the Patriots at the Old South Meeting House on December 16, 1773. As he goes to each business,we find out about tha various occupations and the historic events of this Revolutionary period. The endpapers contain a map of Boston with the errand boy's journey. There is a glossary, further reading list and historical notes about occupations of this period.

Teaching Ideas:
Reminiscent of Laura Schlitz' award-winning Good Masters! Sweet Voices!, this book introduces a wide variety of townspeople and their work. Readers can demonstrate their understanding of the historical types of work in a Readers' Theater presentation. Creating a matrix of the characters, their work, and social position would provide discussion and writing topics such as how and why wealth and social position helps determine political positions. Are these still true today?
