Summary:
Beautiful color woodcuts illustrate information about the Barbour seahorse. The book includes pictures of other types of seahorses and an index (that is also a good vocabulary list).

Teaching Ideas:
Readers could make a list of characteristics of the Barbour seahorse--food, locomotion, reproduction, habitat etc.--perhaps using a matrix. Then individuals could choose a different seahorse from the end papers to research, adding it to the matrix. Or teachers could use the keyword "fish" to assemble a text set from the database for further research. Students could then do comparison/contrast writing using the information in the matrix or using a Venn diagram. Students could write an acrostic poem using "sea horse"
