This is the story of the flag that prompted Francis Scott Key to write The Star Spangled Banner. Events surrounding the attack on Fort McHenry in Baltimore are also chronicled.

Teaching Ideas:
Discussing the designation of this book as historical fiction might be interesting. (It's based on historical facts but told through a child's persona.) The idea of flag as symbol is worth pursuing as well.
