Summary:
Based on a true story, the book tells of a dog named Selvakumar who saved a South Indian boy from drowning during the tsunami of 2004.

Teaching Ideas:
Students may want to collect other stories of animal bravery or how dogs help people, then choose one to write about. Readers can use a Venn diagram to compare cultural differences and similarities between the U. S. and South Indian life. The story makes an excellent introduction to lessons on the science of weather. Internet searching would provide additional information about tsunamis generally and the one in 2004 in particular.
