Teaching Ideas:
Students could reflect on their lives and family origins, noting the ways in which they are similar or dissimilar from their ancestors or those of the same ethnic heritage. Discussion could include what we can or cannot learn about a person based on appearance. A text set of Feelings's work could be used to draw conclusions about his contributions. The introduction and end ("In Memory of Tom Feelings") are both interesting and powerful. Teachers may want to read these aloud. Map at the end could be used to practice map skills.
