Summary: |
Subtitled "The Story of Edwin Booth and John Wilkes Booth," this long biography portrays their lives before and after the assassination of President Abraham Lincoln. This is a GED level book. |
Teaching Ideas: |
Venn Diagrams lend themselves perfectly to comparing and contrasting the two brothers. A timeline would be useful to organize the events of this complex story, using a level for each brother and one for historical events. Unsent Letters can be written from brother to brother or to father to interpret and advise on life events and decisions. Pairs of students can work together to cluster information from selected chapters and clarify the who, what, when, where, how and why of the material. Class discussions can be centered around why the author chose the particular chapter titles. The discussion of the disparate development of siblings within the same family might bring the book into the present. |
