Teaching Ideas:
Ask students to consider what, in general, the vets recall? Compare to other wars. Explore the treatment of veterans by the government and by communities. Explore the treatment of civilians. Students can create questions based on the book to use in interviewing veterans they know, especially from Viet Nam and Iraq, and then compare the stories with the book.
