Summary:
A myth/allegory about rabbits who take over a country and destroy the environment. The illustrations are simultaneously thought-provoking, beautiful, and ominous. The type face may confuse new readers although it is large and easy to read.

Teaching Ideas:
This book provides an excellent opportunity to study metaphoric meaning where something represents something else. It could be paired with books by Peter Sis or Jane Yolen's Encounter. Although the interpretation is open-ended, learners will enjoy discussing and writing about who are the rabbits, who is the "we" that is speaking. Because the story is presented visually with little text, low-level readers and ESOL students can retell the story through the illustrations. Students who love comics or graphic novels may especially like this book.
