Summary:
This book is a wonderfully retold version of the classic story by Washington Irving. The illustrations contribute to the mysterious mood.

Teaching Ideas:
Teachers can ask students to choose a simple, favorite tale and retell it, perhaps including themselves in the story. This book could easily be used to celebrate writing, as it is well crafted. It would serve as a solid introduction to other mystery readings. Finally, the illustrations are so rich that they are powerful "ways in" to the story.
