Summary:
This book recounts the history of 20th Century human attemps to climb Mt Everest, including a gripping first person account by the author. Photographs from the Royal Geographical Society, route maps, a glossary and an index are included. Several pages are white type on midnight blue paper that is difficult to read, particularly those with scotopic sensitivity.

Teaching Ideas:
This book would complement study of climate, landforms, exploration, Eastern culture and religion. It could be used to develop the concept of timelines. Drawing a circle on a local map of approximately the height of Mt. Everest (29,034 ft.) provides a comparison while doing map and math activities. Learners can compare Mt. Everest with other sacred mountains and discuss/write about why mountains have been considered holy places.
