Summary:
A graphic novel format depicts the activist Diane Wilson and her fight against water pollution along the Gulf Coast of Texas. The illustrations contain diagrams to explain problems of pollution.

Teaching Ideas:
After reading the book students could do a Discussion Web strategy on whether Diane's friend Blackburn made a good choice to join the Formosa corporation. Teachers will find many open ended questions for discussion and writing e.g. Why did Diane's family dislike her activism? Since Diane was a good problem solver, students could make a list of the steps that Diane followed. Next, they could choose a local environmental problem, research it using the problem-solving steps (where to go for information, whom to talk to, whom to ask for help, etc.) and then choose an action to implement.
