Teaching Ideas:
Dog lovers will probably just read this cover-to-cover. Selections are excellent for reading aloud or Readers' Theater performance. The poetry is very accessible and would work well for most response activities or for helping students explore poetry as a genre. The teen essays are excellent examples of descriptive pieces and so serve as models for personal writing projects. Pair the book with Dogs of Myth, Rylant's Dog Heaven , or Paulsen's My Life in Dog years .
