Summary:
Subtitled "A Child's Introduction to Poetry," this book is an anthology of poetry for children (many are also appropriate for adults) organized to make several points about poetry: typical contents, common poetic devices, types of poetic formats, etc. The editors' comments help readers see the particular aspect of focus. The final section, called "Do It Yourself," offers several excellent suggestions for poetry writing.

Teaching Ideas:
Teachers will want to select poems carefully; some are too childish for adults. However, the overall organization of the book with simple explanations of each aspect of poetry, the editors' written reflections, and the excellent teaching suggestions at the end make this a valuable addition to the adult literacy classroom. Teachers will enjoy trying the haiku, limerick, and anagram poems.
