Summary:
This is an historical/legendary account of Molly "Pitcher" Hays McCauly, who followed her husband to fight in the Revolutionary War and was made a sergeant by General Washington for her courage and bravery. A biography and timeline accompany the colorfully illustrated text.

Teaching Ideas:
The book can be used in several text sets--legends, women in history, and the American Revolution. Since the author includes historical information as well as retelling the legend, students could discuss how legends develop from real events. Students who are interested in military matters might want to compare the British and American styles of fighting.
