Many legends grew out of real events and were exaggerated over time like Paul Bunyon. The afterword mentions a wolf's skull buried in the Gubbio church. How do students think the story began. What does the narrator add to the telling? The book lends itself to an enjoyable lesson on point-of-view in which readers could tell the story from the pov of the wolf, the townspeople, and St. Francis. The legend can be compared with others in the legend matrix (hyperlink).
