Summary: |
All the poems in this collection are about women and girls, some famous and some not. The three sections of the book are "When I Am Me," "She's a Winner" (about sports), and "Against the Odds." Work from some famous poets is included. |
Teaching Ideas: |
A few of the poems seem too child-like, but most are powerful. Teachers will find many uses for these-- as the focus of individual response activities, for reading aloud, as complements to study of some of the famous women who are the subjects of poems (Georgia O'Keefe, Emily Dickinson, Wilma Rudolph, Fannie Lou Hamer, Harriet Tubman, Sojourner Truth, Clara Barton, Jeanne D'Arc). |
