Summary: |
Although Theodoric of Freiberg lived, wrote, and experimented from 1250 AD to 1311 AD, the author has created a fictionalized personal life of this man who studied reflection and refraction of light in a period in which science was in conflict with religion. |
Teaching Ideas: |
The beautifully illustrated book would contribute a human dimension to the scientific method of questions, observations and experimentation. It could be compared with Starry Messenger about Galileo to discuss the impact of political environment on scientific discovery or The Mysterious Rays of Dr. Rontgen to discuss similarities and differences with more modern science. Hands on activities with prisms, mixing paint etc. would extend the content of the book.
